July 17th @ 5:30 MST
In-person Externships
During the Month of June
For more information on how to apply contact Ms. Chelsea Dickerson (Chelsea.dickerson@childrenscolorado.org) -
Interested candidates can submit requests for externship beginning January 1 each year. Externships are offered to current D3 or D4 dental students or graduates of CODA accredited US Dental Schools who are interested and planning on applying in the next cycle. A minimum dental school GPA of 3.4 is required and a current CV must be submitted with the externship request via email to MHulderman@childrenswi.org. After the CV is reviewed, qualified applicants will be contacted to choose an externship date from those available.
We offer approximately 20 extern weeks from March-May and August-September, filled on a first come first served basis for those who qualify. There are opportunities for a one week visit Monday-Friday, or 3-day visit. The 3-day option can be either Monday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Friday. Observation of the Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic and Craniofacial Multidisciplinary Team occurs on Tuesdays. The orthodontic component of the program occurs on Thursdays and Fridays. Our residents are completing oral conscious sedations in-office daily. Regardless of the option chosen, you will be able to observe dental residents and faculty treating our diverse patient population with varying degrees of medical complexity, spend one day in the operating room, likely observe several minimal sedation cases, attend lectures in the morning prior to clinic, and come in for call with the residents.
We are a hospital-based, two-year pediatric dental residency and recruit for a class of 4 residents per year. Our residents receive extensive academic and clinical training in the areas of craniofacial growth and development, pediatric restorative techniques, dental trauma, behavior guidance, sedation, care of the child in the operating room setting and care of the medically complex/special health care needs child/adolescent. Residents also participate in many community and hospital rotations and our dental centers serve as a safety net dental home for many of Milwaukee’s most vulnerable children. We pride ourselves on continuity of care- each resident has his or her own patient population and every effort is made to have the child scheduled with the same provider for all dental clinic visits.
Detailed information about the CW pediatric dental residency program and requirements can be found at our website.
