The application deadline is November 1 of the year preceding matriculation. All applicants must be graduates of an ADA accredited dental school. Description

This is a two-year, hospital-based program offering a composite of clinical experience and didactic instruction at the Pediatric Dental Clinic, Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical Center. The pediatric dental residents receive extensive clinical training in all aspects of pediatric dental medicine and surgery. A premier tertiary-care facility, The Mount Sinai Hospital draws patients from surrounding communities, across the country and around the world. The hospital is a regional leader in neonatal specialty care and pediatric respiratory disease and provides exemplary patient care to all young people, offering services designed to meet the specific health and emotional needs of newborns, children, and adolescents. The Medical Center is home to Kravis Children’s Hospital and the Adolescent Health Center where scientific breakthroughs are translated into

effective and responsive care for children while parents are provided support and guidance. The pediatric dental residency program is situated in the heart of the Mount Sinai Medical Center and is closely linked with the other pediatric specialty training programs. Pediatric dental residents provide coordinated care for the medically compromised patients and work closely with attending faculty, fellows and house staff from the various pediatric sub-specialty services (particularly in medicine, anesthesiology, emergency, cardiology, hematology, plastics and transplant surgery). The pediatric dental residents are also active participants in the Mount Sinai Cleft Plate and Craniofacial team and actively engage in pre-surgical molding therapies. The program provides intensive operating room experience (over 700 cases per year) and the opportunity to work with multiple attending faculty with active OR practices. Residents receive training in I.V. sedation, moderate oral sedation, and pediatric emergency treatment, and pediatric medicine. Both fixed, interceptive and removable orthodontics is taught and practiced. The clinic has paperless charts and digital radiography. Following successful completion of the certificate program, the resident will meet eligibility requirements for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry examination and can become board eligible.

Curriculum

Pediatric dental residents receive clinical and didactic educational training from board-certified and board-eligible attending staff members. Residents are required to attend both intra- and inter-hospital lectures and seminars. One-month rotations in anesthesiology, pediatric medicine and pediatric emergency room are included in the program. Residents are required to complete a research paper each year that are of publishable quality.

Program Stipend and Tuition

First-year stipend is approximately $80,110 with benefits. Second-year stipend is approximately $83,314 with benefits.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have available the following items to be considered for admission:

• D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an ADA-accredited dental school
• Completion of a GPR or AEGD program is strongly recommended.
• Eligibility for temporary licensure in New York State
• Undergraduate and dental education transcripts
• Three letters of recommendation: one from the dean of the applicant’s dental school, one from the chairperson of the applicant’s pediatric dental department, and one from a faculty member, director of any GPR program in which the applicant graduated or a dentist familiar with the applicant’s professional capabilities
• National Board Examination results
• Personal interview
