Program Length and Number of Positions

This is a twenty-four month program with optional third year to receive a Master's degree commencing July 1 of each year. Five new positions are offered each year.

The program is both university and hospital based.

Application

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Dentistry participates in the PASS (Postdoctoral Application Support Service - https://www.portal.passweb.org) and the National Matching Program (https://www.match.com/dentres) . Only applicants that are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident that have graduated from a U.S., ADA accredited dental school are eligible for the stipend position category. International students from non-English speaking foreign countries applying are required to take TOEFL exam as part of their application. Application materials can be obtained from your dental school or by contacting PASS. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the UAB School of Dentistry Postgraduate Admissions Office the necessary paperwork requested in the application process.

Description

The program in pediatric dentistry prepares professionals for a career in community practice and/or academics. Each program may be tailored to fulfill the needs and interests of each student and satisfy the qualifications for certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. The Department has two options for advanced educational programs. Stipend residency for US citizens, trained in US dental schools.

International Pediatric Dentistry Clinical Residency Certificate 
MS in Dentistry, General (Or Emphasis in Oral Biology)

Curriculum

All required clinical and didactic objectives of an accredited program are available including rotation in pediatric anesthesia at Children's Hospital of Alabama. Emphasis is placed on (1) comprehensive care for children and adolescents including special and medically compromised patients, (2) preventive dentistry, and (3) malocclusion management.

Program Stipend and Tuition

Certificate Tract: Stipends are available to U.S. citizens depending on availability of funds and range from $16,250 - $24,848 per year. Tuition is approximately $11,606 per year for in-state positions.Out-of-state tuition is $60,000 per year. 35.3% fringe benefit rate.

Additional funds may be available for graduate assistant teaching positions for second and optional third year students. Non U.S. citizens are also eligible for these assistant teaching positions if funds are available.

Admission Requirements

Applications are required by September 15th, which contain the following:

  3. National Board or GRE scores

  5. TOEFL score and evidence of financial support (Foreign applicants only).
